Devin had his tonsils and adenoids out on Thursday, May 26. It was a really tough thing for him to allow. He didn't want them out and was determined clear up until the surgery that it was time to go home.
He was not happy to have to wait. We watched some TV and listened to him beg to go home, but neither Phillip nor I gave in. We waited for over an hour before he finally got to go in for surgery. Dr. Chase came and talked to us. Devin asked if he would remove the tonsils with a spoon. Dr. Larsen was the anesthesiologist. They were really kind and waited to put in his IV until after he was asleep.
Our home teacher, Jarvis Olsen, was Devin's recovery room nurse. It was really nice to have someone he knew there to comfort him. After surgery, Jarvis explained that Devin couldn't do chores or anything strenuous for at least one week. Devin was watching Disney Channel and was counting and "flying" with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It was hilarious. A few minutes after Jarvis explained the instructions, Devin said, "Two. Let's make it two weeks." I was cracking up. He was pretty out of it, but was still alert enough to decide that he was able to ask to be out of his chores for two weeks.
He handled it well and even asked to go back and do it again. Jarvis took him to the car in a wheelchair. He popped a wheelie with Devin and scared him to death. He was still a little out. He wants to go back when his tonsils grow back.
It was a hard day for him, but a good one.
