Devin Earned His Bear and His First Pinewood Derby

Devin earned his Bear today! Go DEVIN!!! He has worked really hard. He also earned a gold arrow point and a silver arrow point. After he received the badge, he was told to drink "bear blood." He was really nervous. He kept pulling funny faces. When Sister Hospodarsky poured it in, he was able to recognize that it was grape juice. He then asked for more! He pinned on his mom's pin in 2 seconds.

Right after the awards, it was the Pinewood Derby. This is the first Pinewood Derby for Devin. Devin designed his own car. Grandpa Bulow helped him cut it out. Then Devin sanded it. After it was sanded, he painted it to look like a Washington City Police Department vehicle. He worked really hard on it. Phillip helped him put in some holes for weights. Then Devin glued in two pipe weights. Devin glued Legos on top and on the back. We weighed it and weighed it to make sure that it was not overweight. Unfortunately when we got there tonight, the scale said it was 5.25 oz. I was so frustrated! We had done everything right and then it was over. Phillip tried taking some off the weights. He drilled holes in the bottom. We tried everything! Finally with 1 minute left, I pulled the Lego license plate off. When I took it up to weigh, it came in right at 5 oz. When Devin put it on the first time, the wheel stuck and he took 2nd place. The next two times he raced he won. Finally, I suggested that Phillip look at the wheel. He was able to fix it. After that, he never lost. He tied for fourth place with four wins! It was a really fun night and we were so proud of him! What a great night!
